Imbassaí – Meeting of the waters of a rare beauty. District of the municipality of Mata de São João, located on the North Coast of the State in the current Coastal Zone of Coqueiros. It has as main access the green line, being located 10 km from Praia do Forte. It is originally a small indigenous village that today has become one of the most visited tourist destinations in the State of Bahia. With inns, bars, restaurants, craft shops, police station and medical station
It was the Indians, their first inhabitants, who named the place: Imbassaí, which, in Tupi, means “way of the river.” Today, for the residents, the name has another translation: “meeting the waters”. Very appropriate expression for a place where river and sea meet, providing another spectacle of rare beauty. There are 6 km of wild beaches. The Rio Imbassaí runs parallel to the sea – separated by white sand dunes and a beautiful coconut grove – until their meeting, where sweet and salty waters meet for the joy of the bathers.
